This is an aside titled 'How to Dress Like a $2 Hooker in a $2,000 Gown' dated 8/21/08

Those tight, brightly colored sparkly garments you buy on a whim that just rot in the back of your closet because you know you’ll just look silly on the street in them: in London the girls actually wear those clothes. And bless them for it. Starting with the Diana Vreeland quote, “vulgarity is a very important ingredient… as long as it’s got vitality,” Judith Watt and Mary Fellowes explain how to pull it off in The Economist’s “Intelligent Life.” (”You can wear sequins during the day—ideally a bolero or drop-waisted dress from the 1920s—as long as they are old and tarnished-looking…Invest in a pair of leopard-print or glitter shoes, but only in the most modern, clean shapes.”)
