This is an aside titled 'So much to say about Billy Joel' dated 1/25/09

In case you missed it: Friday in Slate, Ron Rosenbaum called Billy Joel “The Worst Pop Singer Ever.” Says Rachel Sklar in the comments here: “what Rosenbaum sees as contemptuous I see as the work of someone rising in fame and fortune and working through that – I like the recurring theme of ambition, and the tensions that it can cause in the rest of your life… In some sense there is more of an authenticity in Billy Joel because he’s willing to acknowledge the presence of limos and parties and wealth and the good and bad trappings that come with it all, as opposed to Bruce whom I adore, but who has not really incoporated that stuff into his work even though he’s obviously incorporated it into his life.” Let it be known my rankings of Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and John Mellencamp are inversely proportionate to the age of their respective wives. But I know him less for his music than as the guy who went all Courtney Love AOL95 on Ed Champion’s comments here and here. More from Idolator on that.
