Sympathyfortheartgallery has a new favorite photographer: Jean Yves Lemoigne. There’s something about his garish depictions of the death of luxury that seems very appropriate to the year ahead. I also love the photo by Phillip Toledano picked by Time magazine to illustrate an article about the “New Austerity.” Toledana (best known for his portraits of videogamers) also has a series of photographs of the abandoned offices of bankrupt companies. It was shot in 2001 and the resulting book was published in 2004. More from Shape + Color. The photograph for Time reminds me of Julia Fullerton-Batten. Some of her new work is up on Lost at E Minor.
